Using the information in Case Study 3 on page 77-80 of your Experiencing MIS (sixth edition) text; other information on key concepts located Chapters 7-9 of the text plus Chapter Extensions 9 and 12; and any other information you uncover using research on web sites or other means, provide your analysis and recommendations for the Retail Division for Amazon.com. Write a business memo to the business manager of that unit covering the following topics:
- Assume that Amazon had developed its sales and marketing, order management, inventory management and accounting information systems separately. What issues might the resulting information silos cause especially with respect to providing Amazon Retail management with useful information? What recommendation do you have for resolving these issues? How will your recommendation resolve the problems related to the information silos?
- In addition to the issue related to information silos, Amazon Retail had significant issues with its operational data including missing values, inconsistent data and wrong granularity to provide useful information. What recommendation do you have for resolving these issues?
- Recommend a data mining technique for the Retail Division of Amazon.com to use in analyzing their data in order to create useful information. Describe the information that the data mining technique could provide
