Research Brief Introduction

The Research Brief is a 500-750 word paper on a topic you select from this week’s textbook readings. You may want to use the Workshop One Outcomes as ideas or topics for your research briefs. This activity allows you to delve deeper into topics/concepts that may be of personal interest, pertain to current workplace situations, or are relevant to the team project.

Upon completion of this workshop, you should be able to (depending on topic/concept selected):

1. Integrate the concept ofhuman resource development(HRD) with an understanding of those same or similar concepts from a Christian worldview (CO A, F).
2. Describe the practice of human resource development in the context of contemporary organizations and identify trends and major issues of importance impacting the professional practice of HRD (CO A).
3. Compare and contrast the practice of HRD with HRM, instructional systems, organizational development, and adult education (CO A).
4. Recognize the importance of ensuring that HRD programs are compliant with all applicable laws and regulations, summarize those that are related to HRD activities (e.g., ADA, ADEA, EEOC Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures, Title VII, and USERRA) and apply them to real world scenarios (CO A).
5. Identify the major phases of the training and HRD process – ADDIE: assess, design, develop, implement, and evaluate (CO A).
6. Name the individual factors that interact to influence employee behavior and identify the basic concepts and theories that help to provide explanation for employee behavior (CO A).
7. Describe the role that learning styles, learning strategies, and perceptual preferences play in learning and discuss how various individual differences affect the learning process (CO A).

Instructions

1. Select a topic for your research brief. You may want to use the workshop outcomes for ideas.
2. Your research brief should be 500-750 words and include a title page and reference page. The paper must be formatted in APA 6th edition. You must use, at a minimum, your textbook and three sources from professional and/or peer reviewed journals for a total of four references. Note that non-professional/non-peer reviewed references will not count toward the reference requirement.
3. When you have completed your assignment, save a copy for yourself and submit a copy to your instructor using the Dropbox by the end of the workshop.
