Discussion # 5: “Change: Can it Happen?”
In order to adequately address this discussion you will need
to read the article in the Webliography (in Table of Contents in Course
Resources – Webliography) — titled “Change or Die”. Most of the information you need for this
Discussion is in Week Ten. Knowing how difficult it is to institute change –
even when your own life depends on it, how would you approach making changes
where you have several different cultures represented?
Have you ever experienced major change in the workplace?
What was it?
What process was used to institute the change?
Was there any consideration given to the diverse make-up of
the workforce?
How well was it handled?
Have you ever had to make a major change in your own life?
What was it, how did you do it and were you successful?
If you were responsible for a major change – what would you
do first?
How would you get your group to go along with the changes?
What leadership style(s) would you be most likely to employ
and why? Make sure you take into consideration the type of work your employees
would be doing and the multicultural composition of the workers.
Considering the information in the article “Change or
Die” does this information give you any good clues for instituting change
in your own life?
Read Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s “Letter from a Birmingham
Jail” (in Webliography) as an example of a leader constructing major cultural
change. I suggest you read the “Letter” before you comment in this
