Theme: Knowledge Creation, Innovation and Learning Organization
Introduction:
We continue to build on our previous discussions of the Integrated Knowledge
Management Cycle (Dalkir, pp. 43-45). The three major stages of the knowledge
management cycle are knowledge capture and creation; knowledge sharing and
dissemination; and knowledge acquisition and application.
The four stages in Dalkir’s Integrated Knowledge Management Cycle are similar to the
four elements of knowledge management identified in chapter four of the reading by
Uriarte.
The four elements of knowledge management are (1) Knowledge Creation and Capture; (2)
Knowledge Sharing and Enrichment; (3) Information Storage and retrieval; and (4)
Knowledge Dissemination.
1. Challenges confronting organizations relating to the four elements of knowledge
management.
? Knowledge Management and the Competitive Advantage of Corporate Organizations:
Organizations cannot sustain or enhance their competitiveness if they lack the capability to
capture and create knowledge.
Innovation depends on the capabilities of organization to generate new ideas and concepts
from the knowledge captured and created.
The continuous creation and acquisition of knowledge is critical in sustaining the
competitive advantage of organizations.
The process of creating new knowledge is the most difficult element of knowledge
management and it cannot be achieved without effective organizational and management
capabilities.
? Knowledge Sharing and Enrichment:
The process of knowledge sharing and enrichment constitutes the most crucial element of
knowledge management. At this stage, the knowledge which is been captured and created
should be reformulated, refined and enhanced continuously so that the explicit knowledge
generated can be used to generate value through the production of goods and services.
The capacity of organizations to share information would influence their ability to sustain
and enhance their competitiveness.
In addition to the use of advanced technology tools and techniques to enhance knowledge
sharing, organizations can also adopt collaborative management strategies such as teams
and communities of practice to improve the sharing of information and knowledge. Instructions for Preparing and Posting your Assignment:
