The Internet provides a wealth of information, but some websites are not very accurate or credible. Each student will select a career and research it on the Internet. The student will evaluate the information in the website and do an Internet Career Site Report. The Internet Career Site Report is worth 170 points and should be 6 pages in length, APA formatted, utilize Times New Roman, 12-point font, double space. The Title Page, Abstract and Reference Page are required and included in the 6 pages.

The student will evaluate the website by answering the following 13 questions and include them in the Internet Career Site Report. If you do not answer each question, your grade will be reduced 10%.

• Describe your career and explain why you selected it.

• The common name of the site. This is usually found on the home page of the site.

• The exact URL of the site. This is the address/ location of the site. It will typically begin with http:// or http://www. This is important so that I may access the site. (If I can’t access the site then you cannot get credit for visiting it.) NOTE: When typing the URL be sure to type it exactly as it appears. If only one character is incorrect, the site will not be located.

• Who is the author of the site? What are the credentials of the author? What experience does the author have? Include any affiliations (e.g., university professor; government agency.) If none are listed, state that. What evidence exists that the author(s) is (are) qualified to publish this material? What is your opinion of the credentials of this author? Do you trust this site? Why?

• Accuracy and authority: Is the site precise and expert? Is there a sponsoring site or organization? What do you know about that organization?

• Objectively: Is the site impartial and balanced? Is the material factual, unbiased, and in-depth?

• Currency: Is the site up to date and current? Is there a copyright date? (This indicates ownership; it does not indicate credibility or accuracy, however.) Has the website been recently updated, or is the information old?

Scope: Does the site provide an in-depth review of the topic, or is it a superficial overview with broad, general statements?

• What is the career that the site addresses? List 3 things the site says about this particular career.

• Explore some of the hot links of this site. A hot link is a link that takes you immediately to another page (or another place on the same page) simply by clicking your mouse button. What types of links exist? Specifically discuss one of these links.

• Would you recommend this site to other students with the same career interests? Why?

• Briefly summarize what you learned from this site. Are you still interested in this career-why or why not?

• What other questions do you still have about this career?
