Part 1
Introduction (2-3 pages)
Introduction to the role of events in tourism destination development
based on relevant information from existing strategies, reports and academic references (some relevant
reports/strategies are provided in the assignment resources folder)
Part 2: Summary of relevant data (min 6 pages)
In-depth and concise summary of visitors to the region and profile
of event attendees presented in appropriate table, graph and
chart format using the data provided in the assignment
resources folder (overall profile of visitors to the region,
event attendee data collected at local events)
Part 3: Destination Event SWOT (3-4 pages)
Thorough audit of existing events in the region and
review of relevant regional and state tourism strategies to
identify the SWOT of the region with
respect to the role of events in developing tourism
Part 4: Signature Event Concept (2-3 pages)
Clearly defined concept for a signature event for the region with
justification of how it satisfies the following criteria:
– Will attract new visitors to the region and/or encourage
visitors to stay longer
– Is consistent with Townsville tourism brand and contributes
to existing event calendar
– Builds on/leverages existing destination assets and infrastructure
– Makes a positive contribution and local community capital.

destination based on a thorough review of existing tourism and events strategies for the state
and region and an audit of existing local events (at least 15 references)

-Vietnam has been one of the fastest growing economies in aisa in recent years, have
higher spending power, good to attract more of them into sg (earn $$)
– no need visa (Viet embassy, close to Vietnam govt)
-weather similar
-V like to use social media, SG wifi avail almost everywhere (even mrt station)
-good public transport network unlike V messy
-safe, clean country
-shopping paradise (orchard)/ food paradise (can find food of many culture, hawker)
-multi cultural, V can learn more about other culture in just one destination

-language barrier -Singapore government strict rules that Vietnamese may not feel comfortable (Chewing
gum)
-small, not much place to explore… Singapore no natural environment – V like nature
(name a few.. that’s all they have), mostly man made
-expensive

-possible positive impact on economy (hotel/air ticket/transport)
-local events can create employment opportunities for Singaporean
-closer relationship especially now have more Vietnamese worker and students in
Singapore
-medical tourism since Singapore better quality medical technology/staff
-lots of retail shopping – T
Thailand shopping, way CHEAPER AND NEAR than SG, bigger to explore
Australia nature, nice beaches (western culture)
Loyal customer problem (easily bored, need constantly intro new events/infrastructure
(new tourist attraction)– take too much time to build & too costly
Different eating habits (Singapore too oily/salty – V prefer healthier choices)
