My CEO selected is

Stephen Holmes, Chairman and CEO (Wyndham Worldwide)

I will narrate-

  1. Prepare and post a “self-introduction” in your role as the CEO. Use a 7-10 slide maximum narrated PPT presentation (approximate time not to exceed 10 minutes). While not optimal, if narration proves problematic, which can be the case for some MAC users, students may wish to create a separate audio file to accompany the presentation. If anyone wishes to create a video that is also a great alternative. The main thing is that whatever option you choose, it must be possible for your colleagues and the faculty to access, hear, and see your presentation. For the role play introduction include the following:
    • Introduction: In your CEO role, “your” name and a little about yourself and your organization.
    • A brief summary of major successes and challenges that “you” believe have contributed to your knowledge and skill as a leader.
    • As part of your narrated presentation, respond to the CEO roundtable discussion topic (below), providing your initial comments along with good supporting evidence.
  2. Create your narration for the presentation. More detailed guidance about how to create a narrated PPT presentation, and information about other options, is posted in Course Content. Because narrated PPT presentations are larger than usual files you should expect uploading to take longer than usual, depending upon the size and your connection speed. You are strongly encouraged to do a “test run” in advance.
  3. On or before Sunday of week 8 (August 28th), post your PPT as a response to this discussion and use your CEO’s name in the title (e.g., Welcome from John Doe). Be sure to cite your sources for this presentation. Many CEOs have been interviewed about leadership and therefore you may be able to find these on the Web. These should also be referenced correctly so others who may be interested in listening to a CEO speech or interview may be able to do so. Also attach your script or include speaker notes.
  4. By the end of week 8 (August 30th), respond to a minimum of two of your fellow CEOs’ comments on the roundtable topic. As always, we expect to see substantive and value-added contributions.
  5. To qualify as substantive and “value-added” a posting must identify, apply, and critically examine an important and relevant idea pertaining to the topic and must effectively support a recommended position derived from this analysis. To qualify as value-added a posting must offer significant insights beyond what others have already written and should demonstrate an understanding of the industry in which your role play firm is operating.
  6. When participating in the roundtable discussion, assume the CEO you are representing is both well-educated and an avid reader of current management literature, published in both professional and scholarly journals and is therefore able to reference and support ideas rather than relying on opinions and personal experience. (Aside: While it may be possible to find written articles or speeches on leadership by some of the CEOs, this will not be true generally and is not necessary. You are role-playing and therefore have the ability to speak for an “as” your CEO. Speak in first person.)

ROUNDTABLE TOPIC(address topic briefly in PPT and then prepare specific post and discuss further in discussion)

Is your (role play) company’s culture contributing to or impairing its competitive advantage? Share your “secrets to success” if the answer is yes or offer your recommendations if not. (As thoughtful and well educated leaders it is expected that your analysis and recommendations will be supported with evidence from research.) (Remember to stay in your CEO role when contributing to this roundtable discussion.)
