The Columbia Basin College Foundation has started looking for an artist to design a veterans’ monument for its Pasco campus. Officials said they’ll accept proposals for the monument, expected to cost as much as $75,000, until May 20. Where it will be erected has yet to be determined. CBC President Rich Cummins said some of the details of the project have yet to be decided, but that the college is eager to show its support of its veteran student population.
Criteria for CBC’s monument include historical, emotional or inspirational impact, a background in designing public art from the artist, and the ability of the monument to last through the years.
Cummins said the project’s criteria don’t require any specific type of monument. It could be a “living monument” such as a garden or a sculpture of some kind.
