The
functions of Human Resource Management have changed considerably over the last
40 plus years.
- Provide a
summary of HRM’s evolution and expand on the role of today’s HRM
department. - What have
your experiences been with your company’s HRM department? - Have they
been responsive and effective and are they a visible and helpful presence
in your company?
Please
cite your source(s). Make sure your research is from valid academic sources.
The
more interaction the better for a lively and dynamic discussion forum. To be
eligible for full credit, all forum questions need to be answered by Wednesday
with responses to a minimum of three classmates within the remaining week. The
requirement to do the initial posting early in the week allows for an
interactive conversation to continue throughout the week. The discussion forum
is a powerful tool in bringing an online class together as a team. Hopefully,
your participation will lead to some lively discussion.
Some
of the items we discuss may be controversial, so please be respectful of your
classmates’ opinions.
Select one
of the following employment laws listed below. Please make sure you do not
duplicate one of the laws you are doing for your PowerPoint presentation.
- Civil Rights
Act of 1964 - Executive
Order 11246 (1965) - Title VII and
Sexual Harassment - Pregnancy Discrimination
Act of 1978 - Civil Rights
Act of 1991 - Equal Pay Act
of 1963 - Age
Discrimination in Employment (1967) - Americans
with Disabilities Acts of 1990 and 2008 - Genetic
Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 - Lilly
Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 - OSHA –
Occupational Safety and Health ACT of 1970
First
summarize the law (history and major components) and second explain why you
personally feel it is important.
These
should not be general comments. This is a very important week in understanding
the employment laws. Please communicate throughout the week with your
classmates on their selections resulting in a robust discussion forum with more
than three postings to your classmates – the more the better. Useacademicinformation and valid information from
the Internet. Remember to cite all information you restate, reword or quote in
accordance with the APA format. Information on the APA format is located in
Course Information.

This
week’s question is on Labor Unions and is very important. Provide a summary on
the history and reasons why organizations to protect employees were needed in
the early 1900s. What part did the National Labor Relations Act (Wagner Act)
play in union organization? Bring in major milestones of the labor movement to
show that you have a good understanding of the creation of unions.
After
you do your research, answer the question on whether you feel unions are
relevant in today’s workplace?
Be specific in your response – use data from academic sources and recent news
outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, New York Times, etc.
Make sure that your sources have authors – and please don’t use any sources
that are for or against unions. Make sure the reporting is objective.
Summarize
the Occupational and Safety and Health Law (OSHA). Then describe the workplace
security steps you have experienced in the workplace? Do you feel your employer
is doing everything possible to make your workplace secure?
There

share them with your classmates.
In order
for an organization’s ethical culture to be successful, it must start at the

of programs should HRM be delegated to put in place to promote ethical behavior
and practices in the workplace?
Describe
unethical behavior in a company regarding practices such as hiring,
recruitment, discrimination, harassment, promotions, bookkeeping, etc. that

effectively?
Post MGT201 module 2 Assignment
latest 2016 June
Assignment
due this week. You need to describe Four (4) Equal Employment Opportunity Laws,
such as the Americans with Disabilities Act, Civil Rights Act of 1964, Equal
Pay Act of 1963, Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, Pregnancy
Discrimination Act of 1978, Sexual Harassment, etc. or laws that have been
passed to protect workers such as OSHA.
The
presentation needs to consist of a cover sheet, introduction, a minimum of four
pages for each law, conclusion and a list of References – please follow directions
very closely.
For each
law you need to include sheets for each of the
following four questions:
- The history and background on
why the Law was passed and who the law protects. To understand the law you
must first understand its history. - The date the law was passed and
the law’s major components (use a source and cite the source – show that
you understand the tenets of the law) – if you need to quote sections of
the law that is okay. Do not cut and paste from a source. An
understanding of the law is needed. - Your own observations on the
law and whether it works or not? Do you know someone who was affected by
the law? If not research the law’s effectiveness? This page also needs to
show your understanding. - A court case that has been
brought against a company, individual, business (name the company and date
of the case) and how the court decided the case. Describe the court case
along with the court’s decision and if it affected the law. It is
important that in reading this summary a person understands why the
lawsuit was made and who won the case.
Since
this is a PowerPoint presentation please make SURE the presentation IS concise
and to the point with bullets. But remember that substantiate data is still
needed, especially in regards to the background, contents of the law and the
court cases.
The EEOC is
responsible for enforcing federal laws prohibiting employment discrimination. EEOC keeps
an extensive archive of court cases affecting all aspects of violations from
age discrimination, pregnancy, lack of handicap accessibility, sexual
harassment, discrimination based on gender, race, religion, etc. Find laws that
you feel are of interest to you. Court cases on these issues are going on
daily.
The EEOC can
be your primary research tool along with the Library, business journals,
magazines and accredited newspapers. All have covered the history of the laws
as well as lawsuits brought by employees.
Please
use Microsoft PowerPoint and highlight the major points with bullets. This can
be a very creative assignment so you need to use your imagination on the
information included. Please note you are not being graded on your PowerPoint
expertise but on the flow and contents of the data. The presentation should be
a minimum of four pages per law. Your presentation will be
evaluated based on your level of insight, your demonstrated understanding of
course concepts and the quality of your summaries.
Grading
Rubric for this assignment is under Course Information.

due by 11:59 p.m. Sunday evening.

Job
Description (and Daily Activity Work Log)
This
week your completed Job Description (along with your Daily Activity Work Log)
is due.
Job
Descriptions help protect employers from potential lawsuits by explaining the
skills the employee must have to be hired. If an employee fails to display the
required skills, a job description can be used by the employer as a defense
against discrimination complaints. They are statements that describe in detail
the required tasks, responsibilities, knowledge, skills, abilities and
reporting structure required for the position. The finished Job Description is
used as the basis for the employee’s guidance on the duties of the job, for
performance reviews, to determine compensation and job postings.
Instructions:
- Using the job description
format that was attached in Unit 3 (also attached hereto) to prepare a
comprehensive and complete Job Description based on the Daily Activity
Work Log along with the other requirements of the job (education,
experience, special skills, etc.) - Prior to doing the Job
Description make sure you have a good understanding of what needs to be
included. Full instructions are included in the readings and resources
under Unit 3. Instructions on “How to develop Job Descriptions) are also
