Read this short article by the New York Times:

In a First, Submarine Commander Is Ousted (Links to an
external site.) (September 9, 1997 in the New York Times)

Then in your The Leadership Experience textbook, read the
second Leadership Development: Case for Analysis, “The USS Florida.”

Respond to the following questions:

Characterize the leadership style of Commander Alfonso that
was covered in Module #2.

What do you think was Commander Alfonso’s impact on the crew
in terms of love versus fear?

What might account for the fact that he behaved so strongly
as captain of the USS Florida? What advice would you give him?

Consider the video on social intelligence and leadership from
the previous module item. How does the story in this case study relate to what
Daniel Goldman talks about in the video?
