Diversity Research Paper: Choose a company of special
interest to you and one for which you can access information – usually this
will be a well-known enough company that much has been published about it. You will evaluate the effectiveness of
diversity management in that company according to what we have been learning in
this class. Your paper will contain
sections addressing the various parts of the overall outline for this
class. The body of your paper should be
10 double-spaced pages long not including the cover and reference page. The purpose of the paper must be well
supported by relevant literature. Your
own ideas should appear in the form of critique of your references and
questions concerning further potential areas of exploration. In writing your
paper, be sure to follow the APA guidelines for documentation. Use of at least 3 scholarly, primary
reference sources and a total of at least 8 sources are required in addition to
sources used as assigned reading. Be sure to see the writing guidelines for
additional information. Again,
application of appropriate course concepts and recommendations to improve the
management of diversity within the company is a must.

Required Text for the class:

Understanding and Managing Diversity (6thEd.) by Carol
Harvey and M. June Allard

I would like to emphasize the following points in helping
you develop a quality submission:

The diversity management paper should take an appreciative
inquiry approach. That is, it should focus on the best of what is regarding the
company selected and not just the problems or challenges. However, this is not
to say that the paper should not point out gaps or areas that need further
explanation.

In selecting a company to focus your research on, you might
consult publications such as Diversity Magazine, Forbes, or SHRM, etc.

Upon selecting a company, you should be asking what are the
merits and foundations of the company’s diversity management strategy? How well
is this strategy or approach aligned with the market (i.e., consumers,
suppliers, stakeholders). Does the company have diversity as a stated goal or
value? How diverse is the company in terms of its leadership?

What recommendations if any would you offer to leaders and
managers of this company to enhance diversity? These recommendations should be
supported and grounded in scholarship.

Be sure to use scholarly resources outside of the text. I
cannot stress this enough.
