Week 4 Learning Activities
Learning Activity

In the planning phase, managers create a detailed action plan aimed at the organizational goals. Strategic management, or what you will learn as strategizing, is what an organization will do or not do to achieve the goals and objectives that lead to meeting the stated mission and vision. This strategizing should be based on the SWOT analysis of the organization.
From the SWOT analysis, managers create organizational goals. Organizational goals, to be effective, should be SMART. Which means they are:
- Specific
- Measurable
- Attainable
- Relevant
- Timebound
(For example, compare this general goal: “become a better listener,” to this SMART goal: “I will actively listen by asking questions instead of interjecting my own ideas during one conversation each day for one week.”)
