The Chairman of the Federal Reserve System

The Chairman of the Federal Reserve System is in a powerful position that draws a lot of attention. He or she is praised when the economy is good but also take a lot of criticism when the economy is weak.

Mr. Ben S. Bernanke was sworn in as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System on February 1, 2006. He had big shoes to fill to build a strong reputation in the international financial markets. Although Mr. Bernanke has not been very successful in developing the U.S. economy, he was recognized as a person of the year on December 16, 2009 by the TIME magazine. In addition, the Senate confirmed Bernanke for a new four-year term by a 70-30 vote on January 28, 2010.
