Project 1

Step1 Career Goals

Think about your long-term career goals. Where would you
like to be career-wise in three to five years? Write one long-term career goal
in SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely) format that
expresses where you would like to be in three to five years. This goal is
placed in the LDP template section entitled Long-Term Career Goal.

In support of your long-term career goal, you will identify
and list five to six skills that you will need to acquire to enable you to be
an effective leader and to make progress toward the achievement of your
long-term career goal. These skills are placed in the Short-Term Skills
Development section of the LDP. They are updated as you achieve them and carry
forward with your long-term career goal to each course in the MBA program.

Once you complete the requirements in the next step (Step
2), a copy of your completed LDP Template will be submitted in the dropbox
found in Step 2.

Project 1

Step 2 Gap Analysis

By the end of Week 1:

Complete this leadership skills gap analysis.

The GAP Analysis Form has four major sections. From each
major section of the GAP Analysis, select a gap you would like to work on
reducing during the next 10 weeks that will help you toward the achievement of
your long-term career goal.

Place each of the four Gaps you identified from the GAP
Analysis in the LDP’s template table. The LDP template table has a separate
space for each of your four Gap goals. The LDP template table also requires you
to list activities you will undertake to reduce each of your four GAP goals
during the next 10 weeks.

Consider all appropriate activities that would help reduce
each of the four GAP goals. These activities might include conferences, books,
free online classes, mentorship, coaching, observation, professional
associations and groups, networking, volunteering, journaling, and so forth.
Select the appropriate actives related to each of your four GAP goals and list
them with each of the four goals, as appropriate, in the LDP template table
associated with each of the four GAP goals.

Your LDP template and your Skills GAP analysis for this part
of Project 1 is now complete. Post your LDP template in the LDP template drop
box below. Post your complete GAP analysis in the GAP Analysis drop box below.
You will update both your LDP Template and GAP Analysis in Week 11 when they
will be submitted for grading.

Step 3 Leadership
Development Reflections

Read about the relationship between leadership and personal
effectiveness

Begin your self-assessment process by reviewing these
readings (assessments) and reflecting on their possible implications for your
personal leadership development.

You will be able to incorporate these reflections in your
Week 11 LDP Reflections Summary and GAP Reflections Summary.

Project 1

Step 4 Final Skills
Gap Analysis

Now that you have begun the process of thinking about
factors likely to impact your personal leadership effectiveness:

Complete your end-of-course gap analysis using the same instrument
as you did in Week 1.

Take note of all changes, including those in the four gaps
selected in Week 1.

Think, too, about the Step 3 Reflection readings and
assessments.

In your Assignment Folder, post a copy of your final gap
analysis, including a Reflection summary of between 500 – 750 words on the
lessons you learned by completing and thinking about this gap analysis.

Before you submit your assignment, review the competencies
below, which your instructor will use to evaluate your work. A good practice
would be to use each competency as a self-check to confirm you have
incorporated all of them in your work.

2.1: Identify and clearly explain the issue, question, or
problem under critical consideration.

2.2: Locate and access sufficient information to investigate
the issue or problem.

2.3: Evaluate the information in a logical and organized
manner to determine its value and relevance to the problem.

2.4: Consider and analyze information in context to the
issue or problem.

2.5: Develop well-reasoned ideas, conclusions or decisions,
checking them against relevant criteria and benchmarks.

5.3: Create, implement, and evaluate a personal leadership
development plan.

Step 5 Final LDP with
discussion

Using feedback from your instructor combined with your Step
3 self-reflections readings, revise your LDP.

Include a Reflection Summary of 500 – 750 words detailing
the implications of the course toward your SMART goal, career aspirations, and
short–term developmental skills progress.

Post a copy of your final LDP and Reflection summary in your
Assignment folder. Please be sure to retain a copy of your final LDP to bring
with you to MBA 620.
