Module 3 Discussion Question 1

The course textbook is not required for this discussion. ALL
students are expected to participate in the discussion during the week of
Module 3.

Please DO NOT use attachments as this is inconvenient and
cumbersome for viewing.

Please label your responses in your initial posting so it is
clear which comments are intended for each part of the discussion.

Please use the name of the company/brand you researched in
the subject line of your initial posting, e.g. McDonald’s. Please use size 2
font for ease of viewing.

I will post several follow up questions during the week as
the discussion unfolds. Please choose one (or more) of the follow up questions
to respond to.

1) After reading
Chapter 3 in your textbook (note: if you still have not received your
e-textbook access code, you will be expected to participate the discussion and
meet the posting deadlines – the textbook is not essential to the discussion –
it just provides background information), choose a global company/brand and
conduct a brief web search of that company’s actions pertaining to corporate
social responsibility.

To identify a global company go to
http://www.forbes.com/powerful-brands/ Note that this is a listing of brands;
in some cases, the search will identify the brand’s corporate website (such as
Sprite and Coca-Cola).

One hundred companies are listed; a partial list appears
below. Please choose a company that has not already been addressed by one of
your classmates in this discussion.

2) State the name of the company/brand you researched.
Describe what the company is doing in terms of corporate social responsibility.
Focus on the stated values, programs and locations of programs.

You should be able to find the information using the
following search term ______ corporate social responsibility (insert the
corporate name or brand name in the blank). Make sure you are accessing
information from the corporate website. You can also access the information by
going to the corporate website and then searching around the site for the
information. It is often under the “about,” “who we are” or
“what we believe” are all possible paths to the SR information.

Examples:

McDonald’s corporate social responsibility

IKEA corporate social responsibility

Nestlé corporate social responsibility

BMW corporate social responsibility

3) Cite your sources using APA style! (APA uses a References
page not Works Cited. Please provide the complete URL so readers can easily
locate your source.)

References and Citations:

The following is verbatim from the source identified; no
quotation marks are used as the material appears in APA blockquote format.

Purdue Online Writing Lab (2016) states:

Your reference list should appear at the end of your paper.
It provides the information necessary for a reader to locate and retrieve any
source you cite in the body of the paper. Each source you cite in the paper
must appear in your reference list; likewise, each entry in the reference list
must be cited in your text [emphasis added].

It is important to note that the “author” may be
an institution or “corporate” author.

An example would be the brand Coca-Cola; if you go to the US
corporate website for the company and scroll to the bottom of the page you will
see © 2016 THE COCA-COLA COMPANY. In
this case, the “author” would be The Coca-Cola Company. Don’t just
assume you know what the name of the company is. Search the website for the
information; you may be surprised! For example, the http://www.bmwusa.com
website provided the following detail at the bottom of the page: ©2016 BMW of North America. Scroll to the
bottom of the webpage; that is often where you will find the information.

Note the following:

The initial posting is to be a minimum of 3 paragraphs long
with 3-6 sentences per paragraph in length. (Short sentences or sentences that
do not add to the topic discussion, such as, “Great post!” do not
count toward the minimum.) Please DO NOT use attachments as this is
inconvenient and cumbersome for viewing.

To receive full credit for this topic, you must also comment
on the postings of two classmates. The response is to be a minimum of 1
paragraph long with 3-6 sentences per paragraph in length. (Short sentences or
sentences that do not add to the topic discussion, such as, “Great
post!” do not count toward the minimum.)

Read the Discussion Guidelines before you post your
comments.
