Backcasting Assignment
“Backcasting is an often used forecasting technique that starts with defining a desirable future
and then works backwards to identify technologies, policies, and operational plans needed to
build a path between the present and the future.”
Step 1) Select a desirable future state (Sport, Sport League, or Sport Organization) or a future
product (Sport based)
Step 2) Identify the technologies, policies, social changes, environmental changes, and
operational plans needed to reach the future state/product
Step 3) Write-up a 1-2 page Backcasting Report that clearly illustrates your thought process on
how best to achieve the future state/product.
