Pizza! Pizza!
A local pizza restaurant is growing and needs help designing a system to take and fill delivery orders from their customers over the phone. The restaurant hopes that by using a software system to take orders, rather than the pen and paper method they use today, they can do a better job keeping history on orders and use that information to better forecast quantities of supplies/ingredients they need to buy. They also see opportunities in keeping better track of their customer base in order to improve the effectiveness or their advertisements (coupons, door-hangers, etc).

Today when a customer places an order the restaurant must ask for their name (first and last), phone number and address each time. The restaurant wants to retain this information so repeat customers can have their information looked up quickly. After jotting down this information, the employee asks the customer what they would like to order. An order can be for any number of pizzas. For each pizza in their order, the employee must ask the customer for the size of the pizza (small, medium or large) the type of crust (thin, hand-tossed or deep-dish) and any of number toppings (cheese, pepperoni, olives, etc). Each of these items (pizza size, crust type, toppings) has a name identifying it and a cost associated with it that is used to calculate the price of the pizza. The restaurant would also like to keep track of when the order was placed and which employee took the order.

1) How many entities are involved in this case? What are they?
2) What are the attributes of each entity?

3) Diagram the entities, attributes, and relationships involved in this case using the tools and techniques specified in your materials and class discussions. Be sure to break down any many-to-many relationships.

4) After implementing the system you built, the restaurant saw huge improvements in customer service and customer retention. They would like to further enhance the customer experience by allowing the customer to identify an order as “The Usual” that would allow them to save time when they order the same thing next time. What new entities or new attributes to existing entities and relationships would you have to add in order to accomplish this?
