Executive Summary

McDonald’s is one of the top food service companies in the world. McDonalds has over
36,000 locations in over 100 companies. McDonald’s prides itself on being a progressive burger
company ever changing to the customer demands. McDonald’s has a unique approach to
ownership. It primarily is made up of franchises. 57% are conventional franchises while 24%
arelicensed to foreign affiliates, and 18% are company operated. (McDonald’s Company profile)
While McDonald’s is a world leader it has faced competition from not only all the new
burger chains that are rising, but also more healthy alternatives such as Chipotle. McDonald has
met these challenges with offering a few healthier options such as fruit or yogurt in place of the
French fries and a few grilled menu items. There also has been lots of bad publicity as of late
over the ingredients in McDonald’s products. Another step McDonald’s has taken is reducing the
amount of menu items that it offers.
McDonald’s has been faced with such adversity before and pulled itself up and continued to
be a world leader. There should be some encouragement in all the changes McDonald’s has put it
place to win back customers and show that it remains the top fast food retailer in the world.
