MGMT 329: Database Management
PROJECT TASK 1: E-COMMERCE ANALYSIS REQUIREMENTS
The class project will require students to apply the knowledge they learn in class in a practical
manner. Each student will develop an E-Commerce database used to maintain customers,
products and sales information. You are required to 1) gather and analyze requirements 2) design
logical structure of the database 3) create stored procedures to develop the tables and insert the
data 4) write SQL statements for data extraction and reporting. All work for this project must be
on your own. This is an individual assignment, not group assignment. Anybody caught copying
the work of others will receive a zero for the project.
Project Task 1: Analysis Requirements
Evaluate an e-commerce website to determine what information is being collected and used.
Walmart.com is recommended as a good example of e-commerce but you may use other
websites as well.
Based on what you have learned so far, you should be able to identify categories of data (subjects
that can serve as entities) and data that are grouped within those entities (attributes). We will
worry about proper database design later; this task is just identifying the requirements for the
database to be developed.
Identify data requirements
o What type of data is used for eCommerce?
o Where will data come from?
o Who will use the database?
o What is the purpose of the database?
o What functionality is needed?
Identify potential business rules
Your report should contain the data requirements and business rules identified. You should be
able to provide input on all the questions outlined above. The report format is up to you. You can
write a summary, use tables and bullet points, lists or any other method you feel is effective for
outlining the requirements for your database.
Your report should be typed in Microsoft Word and uploaded to UNM Learn.
