To complete this exercise, compose each of the self-insight activities using a Microsoft Word document. Attach your document in the discussion and comment on two or more of your peers’ posts. It is recommended that you attach your self-insight summaries as early in the module week as possible, and then come back several days later to respond to your peers.

Hersey and Blanchard’s situation leadership theory is useful because it takes account of the development stage of the follower. It can also be applied to leading teams but takes a lot more experience on our part as leaders. The Path-Goal Theory and the Vroom-Jago model are also very interesting and useful. “Substitutes for Leadership theory” is another theory that comes into play with team members that are highly educated, or experience on the job tasks.

Leadership Term Project:
A term project is required for this class and counts for (20% of final grade). The project described as follows: Choose a company/organization i.e. aviation/aerospace; government; industry, or academic/non-profit and then conduct an analysis of the company/organization, to include (as a minimum):
Charter/mission
• Organizational structure
• Organizational culture
• Management style and philosophy
• Accomplishments – last 10 years
• Alliances/partnerships (with other organizations)

Leadership Term Project Plan:
- Action Item! Module 2 – Submission of company/organization choice – By the end of this module, use this discussion area to submit your choice. To avoid duplication among the class, your choice of company/organization must be approved by the instructor prior to beginning research. Your instructor will give you feedback on your selection. While this activity does not immediately affect your grade, it is included in the final projects rubric.
- Module 8 – Submission of Reference Page
- Module 9 – Submission of Term Project – The length of the term project is a minimum of 3000 words, exclusive of front matter, figures and tables. Grading will be based on content and adherence to required format. The project will be written in the style set forth in the current edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA). Students will be expected to research their projects using a collegiate library, or the Jack Hunt library through the Embry-Riddle Daytona Beach campus.
Refer to the directions in Module 1 if you wish to review the guidelines and rubric for this project. This project is due before the end of Module 9. You should work on your project throughout this course, so do not wait until the last minute to complete this project. Projects will not be accepted late without prior approval. Papers will be submitted using the Turnitin plagiarism tool.

At the end of Chapter 6 in your Daft textbook, read theLeadership at Work: Scary Person exercise. Then, in real life, do it! Reach out to a scary person (or situation) in your life. This could be a classmate, coworker, boss, or anyone. Choose someone that you have been hesitant to approach, purposely avoiding, or someone that make you feel intimidated. Make it a “real” experience, not just a quick hello or short meaningless conversation. By working through your fear, you will receive the full impact and success of this exercise and broaden your life’s path. Note: If you believe this exercise is silly and side step it, you may have let fear get the better of you by inappropriately rationalizing that the assignment has little value.
- Were you able to reach out to the other person or overcome your fear of a situation?
- What did you learn about the other person?
- What did you learn about yourself?

What motivates people? Why are people motivated? What motivates you on the job? Is it the same thing that motivates your peers? Why does a person go through all the scrutiny and open their lives to the public to run for public office? Why did Joe Gibbs return to the NFL after already winning the Super Bowl a couple of times and having a huge success as a NASCAR owner to again coach the Washington Redskins? Why do these people do this? For money? For power? For achievement? For self-satisfaction?
Our author states that the study of motivation assists leaders to understand what prompts people to innate action.
Leadership Crosstalk:

For a leader to create a motivating entrepreneur work environment, he or she must be able to influence (definition of leadership), and consequently, communications becomes a primary way for a leader to influence others. Developing “listening” skills is vital to effective communication on any level.
Ken Blanchard, leadership author, states: “If God had wanted us to talk more than listen; He would have given us two mouths rather than two ears”. This is a very good point!
Good companies have a reputation for listening to their people. Chili’s restaurant’s, where almost 80 percent of its menu has come from suggestions made by their unit managers, is rated as one of the nation’s top food service chains. What you learn from such examples is that when you listen to others, your organization will never suffer for ideas. That is one of your learning outcomes in this course: establishing an entrepreneurial work environment.
Leadership at Work:
At the end of Chapter 9, read the exercise, Leadership at Work: Listen like a Professional. Do the exercise with another individual. It can be anyone, a co-worker, family member, friend, or total stranger (everyone wants a true listener). When doing this exercise, concentrate, it is harder than it looks. Do not make the other person uncomfortable by being too intent.
- List your thoughts on how the other person responded to you when they realized you were really listening.
- What about you? Were you more connected to the person? Did the concentration on listening enhance your experience?
- How can you use this skill to shape your entrepreneurial leadership styles?
Post your responses to the discussion below. Then review your peers’ responses and comment on at least two posts that are of particular interest to you. Your responses should be 300-500 words in length, grammatically sound, and free of spelling errors.

Yet, the literature states that charisma, like other character traits, can be developed by being enthusiastic, optimistic, caring about people, not talking down to them. Additionally, ensure you display self-confidence and not a feeling of insecurity. Additionally, learn the leadership techniques outlined in our text and other readings to enhance communications, to inspire, and empower others.
