Answer post number 1 and 2 in a min of 300 word each
Problem 3 needs to be at graduate level and use the template attached and the book mention in the problem.
1-We were asked to pick one cost that affects the transportation industry from chapters seven (7) and follow up with three instances that support that one cost.
When I think of (VOC) vehicle operations, a cost we are talking about factors (elements contributing to the problem) and I believe this is one of the biggest problems is “Vehicle Speed.” This is a huge dominating factor that drags so many other factors into the equation whether they want to be or not.
When a truck is loaded and going through town, it is using a lot of fuel because of the decrease in speed and the heavy load of goods in it. Or another scenario is when the truck has offloaded the property and is heading down a freeway empty at a high level of speed the truck uses a lot of oil this is because of lack of weight in the vehicle causing a strain on the engine and uses more oil (Sinha & Labi, 2007). But the stop and starts in city driving put most strain vehicles engine which leads to one of the obvious factors from a stop and go speed fluctuation on the 28’ft to 53’ft commercial trucks, and that is fuel cost.
The fuel factor: fuel is the second or third largest (VOC) vehicle operation cost when it comes to a commercial trucking. The gearing up and gearing down takes a huge bite out of fuel, and still a lot of commercial trucks are not up to Current Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) (Hatfield & Christensen 2014), and this would be a perfect Segway to the next factor dragged into the “Vehicles Speed ,” which is vehicle maintenance.
The maintenance factor: I wish they presented their math formula here, but American Transport & Research Institute support said the average cost of a semi-truck on the road is about 14.8 cents per mile. And the repair order usually goes in the following order; tires, oil, transmission. (ATRI, 2014)
In concluding this post the three leading the way in vehicle operation cost from speed changes discussed on pg. 166 of the text “Transportation and Decision Making,” which extend out to cause repairs on the tires which also is from road surface condition on pg. 167, more frequent oil changes and transmission repair. (ATRI, 2014)
Yes, I thought about truck insurance, but that opens up a debate on whether that falls into this forum because vehicle insurance is a must have like a business license there wasn’t a cause behind it. But a company’s rates could go up because of a careless driver.

2-In chapter 7, there are numerous costs that affect the transportation industry. Pick one of them and find 3 instances where you can find evidence to support your choice.
Hello Class,
While there are an incredible amount things that end up costing the transportation industry money, I decided to go with a fairly obvious one with the routine maintenance that is required to maintain serviceability. Vehicles are in constant need of care in order for them to work properly, and the more they are used the more they need.
One instance that comes to the front of my memory is one that I actually had to deal with. One of the projects I manage is a portable clinic that is loaded into Humvees and sent anywhere in the world. The last couple of years we have had bad luck with our Humvees, forcing us to utilize aircraft pallets in order to transport the assemblage. The computer system used to plan the transport was prepared for the Humvees to roll up, but we had to completely change the entire plan, as we now had to arrange transport of these two aircraft pallets, and a new loading plan had to be created for the plane because the Humvees were in the shop for a good 2-3 months having the engines replaced.
Another example comes from The Geography of Transport Systems. “Cities with an aging of their transport infrastructure are facing growing maintenance costs as well as pressures to upgrade to more modern infrastructure. In addition to the involved costs, maintenance and repair activities create circulation disruptions. Delayed maintenance is rather common since it conveys the benefit of keeping current costs low, but at the expense of higher future costs and on some occasion the risk of infrastructure failure. The more extensive the road and highway network, the higher the maintenance cost and the financial burden” (Rodrigue, 2017).
I believe this provides two instances. The first being the financial toll that maintenance can take on a city, especially those with an older infrastructure. And also the potential to losing some of your abilities when transportation services are out of services, It is almost a double edged sword. Fix things now and be short, or hold off and risk completely losing something later.

In 2 to 3 pages, find a topic that you feel is interesting. You are my Director of Operations. I have just requested an analysis of this topic for you to possibly being promoted to VP. I want you to pin point an issue and perform an efficiency analysis that will save my company money.
Please upload a Word document using APA format for this assignment (see attached for the template). This assignment will have a title page, no abstract or content list, 3-4 pages of reported information, and a reference page. Again, it has to be turned in on the template and APA compliant.
