Assignment:

The data in the table below describes characteristics of the 38 persons who ate food at or from a church supper in Texas in August 2001. Fifteen of these persons later developed botulism.

a) Construct a 2×2 contingency table (see textbook p. 95-96) of the disease by exposure to chicken.

b) Construct a 2×2 contingency table (see textbook p. 95-96) of the disease by exposure to chili.

c) Construct a 2×2 contingency table (see textbook p. 95-96) of the disease by exposure to chili leftovers.

Attached is the answer to the first 2×2 table to help you construct the other two 2×2 tables needed for Lesson 5 Assignment 1.

***For part c, the last column is ate chili leftovers. Leftovers got cut off.

To find A: Find the column that is labeled cases and the column labeled ate chicken. Count the number of people who were a case (Y) and who ate chicken (Y).

To find B: Count the number of people who were not a case (N) and who ate chicken (Y).

To find C: Count the number of people who were a case (Y) and who did not eat chicken (N)

To find D: Count the number of people who were not a case (N) and who did not eat chicken (N).

You will be submitting the other two 2×2 tables.
