Future Career Aspirations Based on Career Assessment Tools
My name is Oscar Garza and I´m 22 years old; I was born in Monterrey, Nuevo
Leon on October 5th, 1993 at San José Hospital. I lived in Monterrey for about 16 years
where I used to play Basketball since I was seven. I moved to the United States on February
of 2011 looking for a better and safer place to live compared to my homeland. I spent two
and a half years in high school, which really helped me realize who I really was and have a
deeper understanding of my future aspirations. I´m a person highly dedicated to
organization, respect, and helpfulness; quite sociable and instigated to care for others in
spite of complications and misunderstandings. I accredit myself with these points and
strongly believe they define me. I concluded my time at Sharyland High School in the
Spring of 2013 located in Mission, Texas where I played Basketball for my last years. Right
after graduation, I began college at the University of Texas Pan-American (UTPA) in the
fall of 2013. I soon began my endeavor towards a Petroleum Engineer Degree since at the
time I was planning on transferring to Texas Tech because UTPA did not include that
specific degree in their curriculum. Plans soon began to deviate from my original scheme,
which led me to opt for Finance, my second option. About two months ago, I took it upon
myself to search for new opportunities in Houston and begin my new odyssey for this fall
semester. Thankfully my brother and I are here now with undoubted confidence that
progress will be made. This will now be my fourth year in college, seeking to graduate in
December of 2017.
The reason I chose Finance is because during the previous summers I´ve been
traveling to Monterrey with the intention of visiting my family and friends but also drudge
during the summer with my uncle at his company. My uncle is the owner of a company that assists any type of companies by advising them on financial issues such as profit-and-loss
reporting, financial plans for savings, retirement, among others. Since I started working
with my uncle, I´ve been learning various things from financial consultants. As soon as I
started working there I realized I was more interested on this career than I was before.
When I performed the Career Assessments I didn’t learn much more about myself
due to the fact that I´ve been working during the previous summers with my uncle where I
´ve been acquiring in-depth knowledge about myself and this job. However, I did acquire
facts about both careers I researched for which was financial consultants and Accountants
and Auditors. For any person who wants to be an Accountant and Auditor, he/she will
require his/her Bachelors and Masters Degree. In comparison to a financial consultant, the
minimum requirements only include but are not limited to a Bachelors Degree. Both salary
ranges are about the same; between $25,000 to $100,000+. While I was reading all the
research I did about these careers, I realized that I like both of them. I really see myself
more as a Financial consultant, not because of the Master degree you need to be an
Accountant and Auditor, even though the jobs are similar but, because of what financial
consultants do. All this information I have learned will always help me to push more and
more of myself striving to be a successful person and accomplish my prospective goals.
