1. Keyes refers to the BYOD revolution as a “psycho-technical phenomenon.” What does this mean? How does this idea (calling BYOD a psycho-technical phenomenon) help or hinder our efforts to understand the BYOD revolution and what it can mean to us?

2. At the end of Chapter 1 (in Transforming Business), the authors offer some practical considerations for what management can and should do when faced with the pressures to go BYOD. What is missing from this set of considerations, do you think?

3. Compare and contrast the revolutionary effects of the BYO technologies and marketplace of products, with what widespread adoption of various cloud-based information services has the potential to revolutionize. Are these the same set of major changes, just in different technological clothing? Or are they profoundly different sets of major causes, driving towards similar “after the revolution” possible outcomes?

4. If we think about the kinds of changes that have happened to societies because of our increasing use of computers, communications and information technologies, we have to ask: is the “BYOD” phenomenon truly a revolution, or is it just the current set of evolutionary step changes in what we do and how we get it done? What benefits come from calling it a “revolution?” What becomes harder to understand, or do, when we label things this way?

5. Quality Management, as championed by people like Deming and Juran, has been advising us since the late 1950s that we need to take down the walls between people and departments in our organizations; that we need to empower “knowledge workers” to be able to help them do a better, higher-quality job in the first place. How would you compare the Quality Management movement to the BYOD revolution, as we’ve seen that revolution presented to us thus far?
