Assignment Description:
Students research an employment position within a company in an industry that has a skills shortage.
This required assignment involves the development of a recruitment, selection, hiring and socialization
plan. It can be completed entirely with secondary research and modeled on an actual company. Where
this is the case, students must make clear any assumptions they make in the development plan.
However, where possible, students should be encouraged to also undertake primary research within the
actual company through interviews with various stakeholders, e.g. the hiring manager, peer employees,
and HR manager/ recruiter. The plan must be developed with appropriate costings, timelines and include
customized documents for the particular position to support the hiring process e.g. job advertisement,
interview questions, assessment tests etc.
The completed plan should have the following components: Cover Page
Executive Summary – be sure to link the staffing plan to business goals
Introduction – briefly introduce the industry, the company and the position within the company
that is to be filled.
Description of industry, industry trends
Description of company, brand and staff retention strategies
Job Analysis
Sourcing Plan
Recruitment Plan
Selection Plan
Hiring Plan
Socialization Plan

Appendices (supporting forms, assessment tests etc) For each of the main parts of the plan (i.e. the parts after the introduction) students must use a
minimum of two external and academically/professionally credible sources in addition to the textbook,
to support the decisions they make. These should be included in a short introductory paragraph at the start of each section to demonstrate awareness of critical, legal or competitive considerations and/or
benchmarks.
The plan should be written using business English. Layout and formatting should reflect both a
professional HR plan rather than an academic paper. However, citations and referencing must still use
APA format.
The rubric will be used to assess the assignment.
