Directions:
We are in the ethical realm of global ethics. Using Kantâs theory of duty ethics (and his vices if you would like), the âUniversal Declaration of Human Rights,â and the provided article(s)/video clips, write a 3-6 page paper discussing whether or not we, as citizens of the world, have a duty to intervene in certain situations.
· Find a news article/story related to global ethics (this gives you a chance to do some research and find something that interests you). You can look on any major news site to find it (CNN, BBC, The Atlantic, NY Times, etc.). The point of this is find a story about global conflict and to answer the questions below.
· You must use Kantâs duty ethics.
· You must use theâUniversal Declaration of Human Rights.â
· You must use at least one assigned reading from this section of the course to assist you (not PowerPoint/lecture notes).
· Your paper must have an introduction (clear thesis), body, and conclusion).
Talking points:
· Give a summary (cite) of the news story you are working on. Why is this news story a global ethical issue? Explain this.
· Do we have a duty to intervene in conflicts around the world? Why or why not? Use Kant/vices to answer this question.
· What role can the âUniversal Declaration of Human Rightsâ play in resolving global conflict?
· Give your own personal insight and reasoning to this case study!
