Unit 1 discussion
Please answer the following: Do you think business ethics
have changed over the past 20 years? As well, please introduce yourself to your
classmates and tell us a bit about yourself.
Each of you should feel free to express his or her opinions
about class and Discussion Board material in this forum, and I ask that each of
you respect differing perspectives. This is an interesting class with
thought-provoking material and I look forward to your contributions.
Please take a moment to review the Discussion Board Grading
Rubric so you are familiar with how you are graded, so you can earn maximum
points. As well, a sample excellent post
is located in the Announcements of this course. In summary, though please
review the Rubric itself, your posts most demonstrate:
Clearly evident effort
Clearly expressed idea
Support for your ideas (i.e. reference to outside material)
an intent to stimulate further discussion
Unit 2 discussion
Are some ethical values or principles relative to one’s own
culture, religion or personal opinion? Are some ethical values not culturally
relevant? What makes them relevant?
Unit 3 discussion
What is the difference in your mind, and in your common
usage, between a perception, a generalization and a stereotype? Please give an example
of each. Are each or all consistently unethical judgments or are they sometimes
or always ethically justified in their use and implementation? Under what
conditions?
Unit 4 discussion
You have been asked to join the Board of a large
corporation. What are some of the first
questions that you should ask, what are the answers that you are seeking?
Unit 5 discussion
Now that you have an understanding of corporate culture, and
the variables that impact it, how would you characterize an ethically effective
culture – one that would effectively lead to a profitable and valuable long-term
sustainability for the firm?
Unit 6 discussion
Are some products too dangerous to be marketed in any
circumstance? What regulations, if any, would you place on marketing
cigarettes? Handguns? Prescription drugs?
Unit 7 discussion
What kind of organization would you like to work for? What
would be the best? What would be most realistic? Think about its structure,
physical environment, lines of communication, treatment of employees,
recruitment and promotion practices, policy towards the community, and so on.
Consider also, however, what you lose because of some of the benefits (for
example, if a company contributes financially to the community or offers more
benefits for employees, there might be less money for raises).
Unit 8 discussion
Did this course meet your expectations? What did you like
the best about this course? What suggestions can you offer to improve this course?
