For this paper, you must choose one individual – historical, current, or literary – and analyze
their leadership style. You can research your leader through media reporting services such as
news magazines, business magazines, trade magazines, or historical documentation in books and
encyclopedias. For literary characters, you may reference the books in which these characters
appear, referencing specific passages or scenes. Regardless of your choice, you must always
document the sources you use by citing them appropriately and including them in a reference
section (follow proper formatting). Failure to properly cite your sources is taking credit for work
that is not yours and is considered plagiarism.
Paper Specifications
• Times New Roman
• 12 point font
• Double-spaced, with spacing “Before” and “After” set to “0”. Go to the “Paragraph” tab
in Microsoft Word to check this.
• 3-5 pages (not counting the reference page)
• Include page numbers (follow your formatting rules for this)
• The paper should be well-written, with proper spelling and grammar.
• All references should be included on a separate page following an accepted formatting
system (e.g. MLA, APA) and in-text citation (e.g. Smith, 2015) should be used following
the use of a source. The textbook should be used as a reference. The reference page does
not count in the 3-5 page limit of the paper.
Topics to Cover
• What leader did you choose and why? (a few sentences)
• Briefly describe your leader and their background. Discuss their family history,
education, and career. Use your judgment about the most relevant information to include.
(0.5 page – 1 page) • What leadership style does your leader utilize? Reference one of the theories we covered
in class. (0.5 page – 1.5 pages)
• Analyze your leader – why do you believe he/she uses this style? Provide evidence. (0.5
page – 1.5 pages)
• Discuss whether this style lead to success for your leader. If yes, explore why. If no,
suggest a style that would have been more effective. (0.5 page – 1 page)
